Dr. Brinda Fuller Willis to Speak at Holmes Community College
Holmes Community College is excited to host alumna Dr. Brinda Fuller Willis as a key speaker for an upcoming National Endowment for the Humanities event on October 28 at 12:30 p.m. at the McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Ridgeland Campus. The event is free and open to the public, with refreshments provided by the college's Culinary Arts program.
Dr. Willis, a member of the Mississippi Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, will delve into the connections between Southern cuisine, African American identity, and heritage. A former student who integrated the college in 1971, she has a rich background in social science and theology, alongside a passion for blues music, shaped by her early life on a farm and her career as a counselor and advocate in the blues community. She co-owns Twice as Nice Entertainment, LLC, and is an accomplished writer, contributing to various magazines and receiving the 2019 Mississippi Humanities Council Educator?s Award. Dr. Willis encourages current students to excel in their studies, emphasizing the importance of a solid educational foundation.
